How long have you been learning English? How much money have you spent on English education? And do you feel confident to speak English with the native speakers?
According to the video named “Why Korean and Japanese students can’t speak English?” on Youtube, Korean and Japanese students spend tens of billions of dollars respectively on studying English each year but still they find it difficult to communicate in English at the most basic level.
Some overseas students attending this interview have shared their thoughts about this issue. They said that in typical Korea high school, English was just an assessment tool to measure their academic performance so all they had to do was study English to get certain grades. And in Japan, they mainly focused on the grammar but in the end, they still could not have a conversation. To sum up, because of not having used English in communication, Korean and Japanese students are afraid to speak English. Most of them wish they could approach English from a more practical perspective.
What do you think? Do you have the same idea? :) Just comment and we will talk about it together :)
